The Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has given strong assurances of delivering a world-class competition as preparations intensify for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), scheduled for November 1–7, 2026, in Abuja.
At a media briefing in Abuja, LGAN unveiled its comprehensive plans for the continental championship, calling on stakeholders and partners to support what is expected to be a landmark event for African women’s golf.
Nigeria will host the AACT for the third time, following previous editions at Ikoyi Club, Lagos (1996) and Abuja (2010).
The 2026 tournament will again take place at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, with about 40 African countries expected to participate.
LGAN President Lami Ahmed expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness, stressing that the country is aiming beyond hosting to competing for honours.
“We are not just hosting to showcase capacity; Nigeria is hosting to win. Our players are prepared, our structures are in place, and we are determined to make the nation proud,” Ahmed said.
She disclosed that early preparations, targeted training programmes, and renewed partnerships are already underway to strengthen Team Nigeria’s competitiveness.
Ahmed also praised Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for ongoing infrastructural upgrades in Abuja, noting that they would enhance the hosting of a successful championship.
“We appreciate the improvements in infrastructure and security in the capital and seek even greater collaboration to deliver a truly world-class tournament experience,” she added.
The unveiling of the AACT logo at the briefing marked the formal commencement of preparations. Ahmed further thanked Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for their continued support for sports development, particularly women’s golf.
Immediate past LGAN President Evelyn Oyome assured that arrangements across critical areas were progressing smoothly.
“Preparations are on top gear, covering accommodation, logistics, and security for golfers from across Africa. We are also putting together exciting side attractions and tourist experiences to give our guests a memorable Nigerian stay,” she said.
Oyome commended the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, for aligning with LGAN’s vision and providing institutional backing.
Also present at the briefing were former LGAN President Julie Monye-Inyere, National Secretary Rose Nyam, Financial Secretary Igho Ugbegu, Public Relations Officer Igbieragbo Ogolo, and TYB Golf Club Lady Captain Jumai Adamu.
Speaking on behalf of the continental body, AACT President Cécile Poncet described Nigeria as a trusted and capable host.
“We believe in Nigeria’s ability to provide a safe, vibrant, and competitive environment. Africa’s best golfers will experience an unforgettable tournament,” she said.
AACT Trustee for West and Central Africa Ekanem Ekwueme also commended Nigeria’s sustained commitment to women’s golf, expressing confidence that the 2026 edition will set new benchmarks for excellence across the continent.
The Abuja championship is expected to further elevate Nigeria’s growing profile in African golf, reflecting improved sports development, enhanced security, and a welcoming atmosphere for athletes and visitors alike.
