Lack of funds could halt Handball World Cup, says HFN Boss

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria HFN Sam Ocheo has revealed that Nigeria’s participation at the fast approaching IHF U19 and U21 Handball world cup is seriously under threat due to lack of funds.

In a telephone conversation with Sports247, the HFN Chief said the board has been met with a no funds response from the Sports ministry and have no other option than to seek means to ensure the teams don’t miss out of the competition through the corporate world and other ways of fund raising.

“We’re luck to have just come from intercontinental championship where we represented Africa and the boys did very well. Interestingly the world cup which is the main the main coming up in July and August for the U21 and U19 respectively, we cannot boast of funding because the music I keep hearing is no fund from the sports ministry.

The next plan is to seek funding from the corporate world so as not to miss out on the world cup.”
