Describing the event as a major initiative for youth development, healthy living, sports excellence, and tourism, Hon. Anyebe emphasized that the marathon also aims to position Lokoja as a historic and emerging hub for sporting and recreational activities in Nigeria.

“The Kogi Half Marathon is designed not only to engage our youth and promote talent discovery, but also to stimulate economic activity and showcase peace and healthy lifestyles in the state,” the commissioner said.

He highlighted that athletes, sports enthusiasts, partners, and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond are expected to participate.

The event, featuring both professional and amateur runners, will be supported with comprehensive safety, medical, and traffic management measures to ensure smooth operations.

Participants will compete for cash prizes and other awards, while side attractions are planned to entertain residents and visitors throughout the day.

Hon. Anyebe expressed gratitude to Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating an enabling environment that has made the hosting of the marathon possible.

He also called on corporate organizations, development partners, sports bodies, and the general public to support and actively participate in the historic race.

“The marathon reflects Kogi State’s growing profile in sports development and youth empowerment, and demonstrates the commitment of the Ododo administration to sustained progress in critical sectors including infrastructure, human capital, and youth development,” he stated.

Further details regarding registration, race routes, and other activities associated with the marathon will be announced in the coming days, as preparations continue to ensure a successful and impactful sporting celebration in Kogi State.
