KG Sports, Ekuku Agbor Book Semifinals Ticket As Winners Maintain Winning Streak

KG Sports Academy Agbor defeated Superfly FC 2-1 in the second round fixtures of the ongoing KG Sports Foundation Cup to go top of the group and confirm their place in the semi-finals of the Tournament even with a game to play.

Skipper Joseph Ukah gave the Academy boys the lead in the 25th minute after beating two defenders before slamming a half volley into the net.

Dumebi Alekwe doubled the lead in the 65th minute after outrunning his marker on the right flank before placing the ball in the bottom right corner.

The ovation that greeted the teenager’s first goal in KG Sports colors had barely died down when Wisdom Aminu beat the offside trap to make it 2-1 in the 67th minute.

Superfly pushed hard to score the leveler with the hope to see if they can win the match knowing they need the 3 points to stay in the competition but it was KG that got the better chance at the other end when Jude Obi scuffled a chance to make it 3-1 as his half volley flew wide above the goal post from the edge of the 6-yard box.

The defeat for Superfly automatically knocked them out and Ekuku Agbor Advanced with 4 points even with two matches to spare.

Ekuku Agbor will take on Superfly on Wednesday before facing KG Sports on Friday in a match to determine group leaders.

On Tuesday, Winners FC maintained their 100% winning streak with a comfortable 2-1 win over Green rangers.

Two Second half Goals from Ernest Okonkwo and Destiny gave the Agbor Obo boys the lead before OG Boy got one back from the penalty spot.

Green rangers will have to win Rainbows on Thursday and hope Winners defeat Rainbows on Saturday in the final group match.

The 2020 finalists are yet to earn a point after losing all three group games.

The 6 team Tournament is an invitation second Edition and it been organized by KG Sports Foundation, a nongovernmental organization committed to youth empowerment through sports.
