Teen sprint sensation Kelly Ufodiama is making waves on the track, and this time, she’s doing it in green and white.
The 19-year-old sprinter, who recently completed a switch of allegiance from the United States to Nigeria, clocked an impressive 22.61s (0.7) in the 200m at the NCAA Championships in Oregon, reaffirming her rising-star status on the global athletics scene.

Competing as a freshman at East Carolina University, Ufodiama has had a breakout season, with personal bests of 11.15s in the 100m and 22.54s in the 200m — the latter set at the NCAA East Prelims in Florida, qualifying her outright for the World Athletics Championships later this year.
Her 22.54s places her as the second-fastest U20 woman in the world this year, a feat that puts Nigeria back in the global sprint spotlight.
It also provides a major boost for Team Nigeria, which has been on the lookout for new-generation sprinters to carry the legacy forward.
Born and raised in the United States, Ufodiama was a dual-sport athlete in high school, balancing her time between basketball and track before fully committing to the oval. Her recent switch of allegiance marks a significant commitment to representing her Nigerian roots on the global stage — and early signs show it’s already paying dividends.
With the World Championships approaching, Nigeria’s athletic federation and fans alike will be watching closely as Ufodiama prepares to join the senior ranks in a year that could define her career.
