Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho made a spectacular start to life at Bursaspor, scoring and providing an assist on his debut as the Turkish side defeated Bodrum FK 2-0 in their opening 1. Lig fixture of the 2026/27 season.
The Nigerian forward showed his quality from the outset, playing a direct role in both goals as Bursaspor secured an important opening-day victory.
Iheanacho provided the assist for Bursaspor’s opener before getting on the scoresheet himself to complete an impressive individual debut.
The performance represents an encouraging beginning for the 29-year-old, who joined Bursaspor after leaving Celtic, where he helped the Scottish club win the Premiership and Scottish Cup during the 2025/26 campaign.
His arrival in Turkey was met with considerable expectation, and the Nigerian wasted no time demonstrating the experience and attacking quality that attracted Bursaspor to him.
The former Manchester City, Leicester City and Sevilla forward will now hope his excellent debut provides the platform for a productive season as Bursaspor aim to establish themselves among Turkey’s leading sides.
For Iheanacho, however, the immediate focus will be on maintaining his sharpness and building on a debut that could hardly have gone better.
