Sports247 reports that, in contrast with initial information that Celtic had already released the 29-year-old Taye Football Academy of Owerri producrt, who previously played for Columbus Crew of USA, Manchester City, Leicester City and Middlesbrough of England as well as Sevilla of Spain.
Iheanacho’s troubles appeared to have resurfaced, following a short term deal he sealed with Celtic after an insipid loan spell at Middlesbrough from Sevilla, where he failed to hit top form during a half-season in La Liga, but O’Neill has offered the once-promising attacker a huge lifeline this summer.
Everything is now pointing in the direction of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valauble player getting into the mainframe at Parkhead before the end of this month, as O’Neill also confirmed that the club has an interest in giving the out of favour star a new contract.
Iheanacho played a crucial role in Celtic’s title-winning campaign last season, scoring several decisive goals to become a fan favourite at Parkhead, but he is currently a free agent, following the expiry of his contract at the end of June and he is cu training individually, while considering his next move.
That next move, though, appears to have brightened, with a silver lining now provided by O’Neill, as The Bhoys’ gaffer is eagerly thinking of a fast-track deal that could see Iheanacho make up for lost time and get into the team’s scheme of things before they start their build-up to the new season.
O’Neill affirmed enthusiasitically, “I’d like to do something with him. That’s the point. Of course, if we can do something relatively quickly, at least he then gets started in pre-season, which is really important for him.
“It’s something he didn’t have last year. After about three minutes, he was injured against Sturm Graz. He then hurt himself in the League Cup final as well. So, a deal would be nice. I’m definitely pursuing that at this minute.”
