The fresh executive committee of Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), under its new president, Engineer (Dr.) Chukwudi Dimkpa has set in motion a revitalised method of approach tagged ‘ambitious programme,’ which outlines several innovations for the martial arts body.
Sports247 gathered that some of the directives handed out after the board’s inaugural meeting include restrictions of public comments by its members, among several other ‘far-reaching decisions aimed at strengthening the administration, technical development and growth of karate in Nigeria.’
The decisions were announced after the board meeting at Check-Inn Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja, where Dimkpa stressed the need for unity, professionalism, accountability, adherence to the federation’s constitution and commitment of all stakeholders to the development of karate in Nigeria.
Dimkpa also urged everyone in the Nigerian karate community to work in harmony and move collectively towards building a stronger KFN, while the board pledged its devotion to a united, professional, constitutionally governed federation capable of uplifting the sport at home and internationally.
A press release signed by KFN’s head of media, Ohis Asein added, “As part of measures to strengthen the Federation’s institutional identity and communication infrastructure, the Board directed the restoration, updating and securing of KFN’s official website and social media platforms.
“The Board also reaffirmed the need for proper coordination of official communication in accordance with the KFN Constitution. Accordingly, official administrative correspondence of the Federation shall be issued through the Secretary General.
“Press conferences, public statements and publicity on behalf of the Federation shall be undertaken by the President, Vice Presidents or officials authorised. No board member, committee or person may issue statements to represent Karate Federation of Nigeria without requisite authority.
“The inaugural meeting marks the beginning of an ambitious programme by the KFN Board to strengthen governance and administration of karate, improve technical standards, expand domestic competition and create greater opportunities for athletes, coaches, referees and stakeholders across Nigeria.”
Sports247 reports further that other issues announced after the meeting include establishment of karate league, reinstatement of suspended officials and designation of new positions, among others.
