John Ogu: People I Trusted Failed Me – I Ended Up A KING

Nigerian midfielder John Ogu, in an emotional Twitter thread, has recounted the trials and triumphs he has experienced so far in his football career.

The free agent who last played for Al-Adalah in Saudi Arabia last year also revealed that he isn’t done playing.

Ogu, 32, started off by revealing how he was left helpless by the people he placed his trust in.

“Truth is a lot of people I trusted failed me in my career moving forward. I remembered I trusted someone back here in Nigeria after I signed for Almeria in La Liga then but because of their selfish interest for me to play in Belgium, the deal crashed but we moved,” he tweeted.

Ogu signed for UD Almeria in 2011 after previous spells in Portugal with Atletico CP and the now-defunct Drava Ptuj of Slovenia where he started his senior career in 2006.

The move to Almeria did not play out well as Ogu failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Spanish side before departing in November 2011.

He returned to Portugal with Leira and later Académica before his glorious stint with Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Israel between 2014 to 2019.

“I went to Portugal and then I was without a top club then ended up in Israel where I became KING with the help of my brother Tony Nwakaeme on the field where we won titles together. I’m so proud to see him buzzing hard in Turkey and flourishing”.

In Israel, Ogu achieved cult status. He appeared in over 190 games for Hapoel Be’er Sheva during his five years stay, winning three Israeli league titles, two super cups, one league cup, and featured in the Europa League.

All good things do come to an end and Ogu left the Camels in the summer of 2019 in search of a new challenge.

The central midfielder signed with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Adalah in January last year.

He left Adalah in September and has been without a club since. Nonetheless, the player confirmed that he isn’t leaving the beautiful game just yet.

“I’m as hungry as ever to succeed in this life and career God has chosen for me. The market is opened. I’m working so hard to get back on the pitch.”

With 26 caps with the Nigerian national team, a bronze medal at the 2019 AFCON, and a host of winners medal from his time in Israel, it is safe to say John Ogu has achieved success in his profession to this point.
