Jay-Jay Okocha, Other African Football Legends Appointed As CAF Ambassadors For AFCON 2023/2024

In a significant move to enhance the appeal and reach of African football, the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has introduced the CAF Ambassadors program, with iconic football legends Augustine ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha,El Hadji Diouf, Asamoah Gyan, and Ahmed Hassan as the inaugural members.

The CAF Ambassadors will play an important role in promoting CAF and African football globally.

Their responsibilities extend to participating in various activities, including tournaments, charity initiatives, commercial events, and social engagements.

The selection criteria for these ambassadors considered sporting and career achievements, social impact, and commercial value.

El Hadji Diouf, a two-time CAF Player of the Year and a key figure in Senegal’s golden generation of the 2000s, brings his experience and charisma to the ambassadorial role.

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal-scorer, has had a remarkable career, captaining the Black Stars and achieving success in multiple Africa Cup of Nations campaigns.

Ahmed Hassan, one of the most decorated players in African football, clinched four Africa Cup of Nations titles with Egypt and is renowned for his extensive caps, ranking him among the highest-capped players in history.

Augustine ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha, the iconic Nigerian midfielder, adds his flair and skill to the ambassadorial team, having won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 with the Super Eagles.

The Ambassadors Program aims to expand CAF’s presence beyond the realm of football by including personalities from various fields.

This initiative is expected to generate commercial benefits and social impact across the continent, creating new revenue streams for CAF.
