Jamilu Collins eyes progress with Eagles

Ahead of the double header 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with Libya, Paderborn 07 defender Jamilu Collins has reflected that Nigeria’s victory at Seychelles last month is a turning point that the team can progress from, whilst remaining realistic.

The Super Eagles recorded a 3-0 result to stay third behind Libya and South Africa in the Group E of the qualifying series.

Jamilu Collins has warned that the team must remain ‘in reality’ whilst trying to capitalise on current confidence.

“We can move forward, but with our feet on the ground know that if we look at the table, it still reflects what the situation is,” commented the defender to Sports247.ng.

“We have to continue for many games and maintain some consistency. The win at Seychelles was a major one for all.

“The mindset now is very different for the players, we are happy to have moved forward in a game, whilst still being realistic.

“We know that it was an important step for our mood and belief in what we are doing. At the moment, the table is not relevant, we are looking to progress in the next two games with Libya.

Nigeria will host the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday 13th October with the return leg scheduled for the 18,000-capacity Stade Taïeb Mhiri in the city of Sfax, Tunisia on Tuesday 16th October.
