Speaking after Nigeria’s campaign came to an end, Iwobi revealed that the Super Eagles arrived at the tournament with one clear target — lifting the AFCON trophy — but accepted that the ambition was not realised.

“Nigeria came to the Africa Cup of Nations to win the trophy but that didn’t happen,” Iwobi said.

Despite the disappointment on the pitch, the Fulham star highlighted the positives away from football, describing the overall experience as an enjoyable and memorable one. He was particularly impressed by Morocco’s world-class facilities and warm reception.

“Still, we really enjoyed the tournament. Morocco is a very beautiful country. The stadiums are incredible and the hotels as well,” he added.

Iwobi also singled out Marrakech for special praise, applauding the hospitality he received during his stay.

“I truly loved my stay in Marrakech and the Moroccan hospitality. What I saw in Morocco impressed me a lot. It’s a magnificent country.”

Morocco hosted the tournament amid widespread acclaim for its infrastructure, organisation, and cultural appeal, with Iwobi’s remarks echoing the sentiments of many players and officials.

While the Super Eagles will now turn their focus to future international assignments, Iwobi’s reflections underline both the disappointment of missing out on continental glory and the lasting impressions left by an AFCON hosted in style.
