New Super Falcons midfielder Suliat Abideen has expressed delight at earning her first senior national team call-up, describing the opportunity to represent Nigeria as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition.
The Fenerbahçe midfielder made her Super Falcons debut with a brief appearance during Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of their Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie.
Abideen, who had been hoping for an opportunity to represent the country at senior level, said receiving the invitation was an emotional moment after a lengthy wait.
“When I got the message, I was so happy because it’s been long that I’ve been hoping for this moment, and I thank God I’m here today,” she said.
The midfielder’s inclusion forms part of efforts to strengthen the Super Falcons squad with emerging talents as Nigeria pursues one of Africa’s two qualification tickets for the 2028 Olympics.
Despite being a newcomer, Abideen is determined to make the most of her opportunity and contribute to the team’s ambitions.
“I’m here to give my all and be among the players that will take Super Falcons to the next level,” she declared.
Her debut came as Nigeria established a two-goal advantage over Comoros, placing the Super Falcons in a strong position ahead of Tuesday’s return fixture.
With competition for places in the national team remaining intense, Abideen will be hoping to build on her first appearance and earn further opportunities to demonstrate her abilities.
For the midfielder, however, the immediate priority is not simply securing more playing time but contributing to the collective progress of the team.
Her determination reflects the enthusiasm of a new generation of players seeking to establish themselves within the Super Falcons setup.
Having finally realised her dream of wearing Nigeria’s colours, Abideen is now focused on making her opportunity count and helping the Super Falcons achieve greater success on the international stage.
