New Super Falcons midfielder Favour Omenazu has described her maiden senior national team invitation as a dream come true, admitting that she had almost given up hope of representing Nigeria before receiving the long-awaited call-up.
The MK Dons midfielder, who is part of the Super Falcons squad for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers against Comoros, expressed overwhelming joy at the opportunity to join the national team.
“When I got the call-up to come to the camp for the Super Falcons, I had so many different emotions, like overwhelming happiness,” Omenazu said.
“It’s basically a dream come true. I always thought it would stay as a dream, so actually to get that call was amazing.”
Omenazu’s inclusion comes as Nigeria seeks to strengthen its squad with fresh talent while pursuing qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games.
The midfielder believes joining a team with a history of continental success presents both a privilege and an opportunity to contribute to future achievements.
“Being here with this team, I like to think I’m quite a hard worker, and I would love to contribute in any way I can to the team,” she explained.
She also expressed admiration for the progress made by the Super Falcons and their record of winning major honours, insisting that she wants to become part of the team’s continued success.
“I would love to be a part and help contribute to get even more trophies and more wins for the group,” Omenazu stated.
With Nigeria holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg against Comoros, the Super Falcons will be looking to complete the job in Tuesday’s return fixture and advance in the Olympic qualifying campaign.
For Omenazu, the immediate challenge is to settle into the squad, work hard and earn opportunities to demonstrate her value.
Having once feared that representing Nigeria would remain an unfulfilled ambition, the midfielder is now determined to make her long-awaited opportunity count and contribute to the Super Falcons’ future success.
