Isuaniocha Town Wins Awka North And South Unity Football Competition

Isuaniocha town has been crowned champions of the Awka North and South Unity Football Competition bankrolled by the lawmaker representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Samuel Chinedu Onwuaso.

A brace in both halves scored by midfield maestro Henry Ofojee in the 28th and 87th minutes was all the community needed to see off their opponents in the keenly contested match played on Sunday, 9th January 2022 at the Paul University Field Awka.

Speaking to sportswriters at the end of the colourful grand finale, the representative of the benefactor of the competition, Barr. Nnamdi Anagor stated that the essence of the football competition is to create oneness that will bring about unity and togetherness amongst the people of the constituency.

According to Anagor, the competition has come to stay and will be an annual programme for the constituency. He stated that the football programme will soon be re-energized with the introduction of the female version to ensure that both genders are carried along. He revealed that as part of the programmes geared towards the promotion of sports, the games of Tennis, Volleyball and Table Tennis will be incorporated into the sporting programme.

Isuaniocha, the winner of the competition smiled home with one million naira, while Okpuno who finished as first runners up took home N500,000 with Mbaukwu who emerged second runners up settling for N300,000. There were individual awards such as Team of the Tournament which went to Isuaniocha, Highest Goalscorer went to Chika Nnamekwo of Amanuke with seven goals, the Best Goalkeeper gong went to Chisom Akwaobi of Isuaniocha while the Most Valuable Player was awarded to Henry Ofojee of Isuaniocha.
