Injury Concerns Cloud Super Eagles’ Final Group Clash as Chelle Sweats on Nwabali, Onyeka

Nigeria’s preparations for their final Group game at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have been hit by injury concerns, with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle expressing doubts over the availability of key duo Stanley Nwabali and Frank Onyeka ahead of Tuesday’s showdown against Uganda.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Chelle confirmed that both players are currently under medical observation and may miss the decisive encounter. First-choice goalkeeper Nwabali is battling a knee problem, while midfield enforcer Onyeka is nursing a slight ankle injury.

“Nwabali has a knee issue, and Onyeka has a slight ankle problem,” Chelle revealed. “We will assess them to know the extent of the injuries before the game.”

The possible absence of the pair represents a significant selection headache for the Super Eagles. Nwabali has been a pillar between the posts, offering composure and authority, while Onyeka’s energy and ball-winning ability have been central to Nigeria’s midfield balance.

Nigeria are keen to finish the group stage on a strong note against Uganda, but Chelle admitted the situation could force late tactical adjustments depending on the medical team’s final assessment.

The coaching crew is expected to make a definitive call on both players’ availability after further evaluations ahead of kickoff. Until then, the Super Eagles remain on standby, weighing contingency plans as they look to maintain momentum and secure a positive result in their final group outing.
