This year’s tournament marks a significant leap from 2024, with the champions in both the men’s and ladies’ categories expected to earn N500,000 each, up from the previous N300,000.

All 16 qualifying players—eight men and eight women—are also guaranteed financial rewards for their performance.

Speaking at a press conference to launch the event, Chairman of the Tennis Section, Diran Famakinwa, praised the tournament’s headline sponsor, Megamound, for sustaining and expanding its support.

“The year-end Masters is a celebration of the excellent skills of our players,” Famakinwa said. “These eight top male and eight top female players have shown consistency and superiority throughout the year. Now, everything resets as they compete to determine the men’s and women’s champions for 2025.”

He recalled the 2024 champions, Mr. Destiny Da Silva and Ms. Nene Lawani, noting that the field remains wide open as the new season-ending contest begins. The tournament runs from December 5 to December 13, with the women’s finals scheduled for next Friday to allow each category its own spotlight.

In her remarks, the Executive Director of Megamound, Mrs. Olamide Claud-Ennin, said their decision to invest in tennis was inspired by the sport’s growing appeal within the Ikoyi Club and by their commitment to diversifying their sporting partnerships after years of supporting golf.

“We are here for the long run,” she reaffirmed, signalling the company’s intention to bolster the Masters as a flagship event in the club’s sporting calendar.

The 2025 Ikoyi Club Tennis Masters is poised to close the year with top-tier competition, heightened incentives, and renewed enthusiasm among players and fans alike.
