The discussions centered around strategic efforts to revamp sports development in the local government and foster stronger youth participation.
One of the key highlights of the meeting was the proposal for the “Chairman’s Cup”—a grassroots football competition that would begin with ward-level qualifiers and culminate in a local government final.
Coach Gbenga emphasized that the initiative would strengthen community ties and help discover young talents. The local government is expected to provide sporting equipment and sponsor prizes for the tournament.
Comr. Otubanjo Olalekan welcomed the initiative, noting the administration’s commitment to repositioning youth and sports development as a priority agenda.
His sentiments were echoed by Hon. Koleowo, who reaffirmed his passion for sports and his dedication to creating opportunities for young people.
“The importance of sports in community development cannot be overemphasized,” said Hon. Koleowo. “We are ready to partner with all stakeholders to build a vibrant sports culture in Ijebu North East.”
In line with this vision, the Executive Chairman is currently overseeing the renovation of a hall at the Human Development Center, which will feature indoor games such as table tennis and snooker.
Additional infrastructure upgrades—such as the installation of a new borehole and the renovation of public toilets—are also underway.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides pledging continued collaboration. Present at the gathering were notable coaches including Afolabi Rasheed, Seye Adebanjo, and Anthony Esther.
The initiative marks a significant step in reviving grassroots sports and positioning Ijebu North East as a hub for youth talent development in Ogun State.
