Igboamalu, Anjor and Abideen star in NWPL Team of Week 3

It’s time to find out which players performed well enough in the week three of the Nigeria Women Premier League to receive the momentous honour of being included in the team of the week.

GOALKEEPER: OYINYECHI OKEKE – BAYELSA QUEENS
A huge win for Bayelsa Queens as they beat in form Sunshine Queens to go above their opponents in Group C. Moses Aduku Ladies came into the game on the back of an important victory away to Nasarawa Amazons in Lafia.

Onyiyechi Okeke made two brilliant saves to deny Abideen Suliat and Innocent Patricia from scoring and a clean sheet built the platform for a win which ensured her side remains in top of the log.

DEFENDER: OLUCHI WHYTE (IBOM ANGELS).
Oluchi Whyte has been consistent for the ‘Orange Ladies’ from the beginning of the season. Though her side lost 2-1 to Invincible Angels in Makurdi, the right full back effort was so palpable as she saved her team from conceding more goals in a thrilling encounter at the Aper Aku stadium.

DEFENDER: PATIENCE DIKE (OSUN BABES)
Patience Dike shined in defence as Osun Babes played a difficult game against Rivers Angels in Porthacourt. The former Flamingoes left full back made some important overlapping runs in the game and fully recovery in time to prevent Blessing Okpe and Yetunde Adeboyejo from scoring more goals.

DEFENDER: ALEXANDRA FLORENCE (CONFLUENCE QUEENS).
Defence has long been the ‘New direction Ladies’ headache but they performed admirably well in the 2-0 victory over Abia Angels in Lokoja.

Alexandra Florence and defensive partner Kemi Famuditi both shone on matchday 3 , helping to nullify Nwanene Nwamaka, Offor Merit and others.

Whyte Ogbonda has said Alexandra Florence should be in Thomas Denerby’s thoughts as the defender continues to excel.

DEFENDER: TOBILOBA OLARENWAJU (RIVERS ANGELS).
After the 1-0 loss to Delta Queens in week two, Rivers Angels played well against Osun Babes and earned a deserved 2-1 victory. Tobiloba Olarenwaju was superb and played well helping her side to a great victory at home.

MIDFIELDER: BUNMI OLADEJI (DREAM STARS LADIES).
A stunning goal from the middle of the pitch got everyone talking about this young player. Bunmi Oladeji was magnificent and helped her team in defense and from the midfield, providing the screen infront of the defence. She made more tackles than any other player on the pitch.

MIDFIELDER: CHINYERE IGBOAMALU (NASARAWA AMAZONS)
A brace from the solid babes midfielder ensured a pummelling 5-0 victory for Nasarawa Amazons. Chinyere Igboamalu and her teammates made up for the frustrating loss at home against Bayelsa Queens last week.

MIDFIELDER: SULIAT ABIDEEN (SUNSHINE QUEENS).
Though Sunshine Queens lost to Bayelsa Queens in Yenagoa, Abideen Suliat was magnificent.

The notoriously hardworking playmaker was at her best helping create a lot of goal scoring chances for her attackers with some intense pressing play.

FORWARD: MONDAY GIFT (FC ROBO).
Exceptionally gifted player, Monday Gift gave the Delta Queens defence a lot of problems and ensured her side got a point in Asaba. Two goals from two games.

FORWARD: ANJOR MARY (BAYELSA QUEENS)
Four goals in three matches for Anjor Mary who is fast becoming a talismanic figure at Bayelsa Queens as Moses Aduku’s side beat Sunshine Queens 1-0. Anjor was voted player of the month of July and would want to score more when the league resumes.

FORWARD: HAMBAFEN AYATSEA (INVINCIBLE ANGELS).
Invincible Angels are very strong at home and have shown class against top teams like Confluence Queens and Ibom Angels. Forward Hambafen Ayatsea is one of the reasons the club is placed second at the end of the first round in Group D ahead of Ibom Angels and Abia Angels. Ayatsea has scored two goals in three matches and wants to score more
