With the 2025 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) Super Finals set to light up Abuja from November 6 to 9, Ibom Beach Soccer Club goalkeeper Emmanuel Okon has declared his ambition to use the high-stakes championship as a springboard to the national team.
Okon, a standout performer for Ibom BSC this season, says he is laser-focused on helping his club deliver a strong finish in Abuja while also putting himself firmly on the radar of the Super Sand Eagles’ selectors.

“My target is to get an invitation to the national team after the Super Finals and play for the Super Sand Eagles, and also work with my teammates to get good results in Abuja,” Okon told reporters.
Ibom BSC faces a stern test in their opening fixture against Kebbi Fishers, one of the league’s most experienced and decorated sides. While acknowledging the challenge, Okon is confident this year’s showdown will produce a different outcome from their previous encounter during the regular season.
“Kebbi Fishers will give us a good test. They beat us during the regular season, but I believe this Super Finals will be a different ball game and we will win them. We plan to win all our games.”
The keeper attributed Ibom’s improved form to a deeper understanding of the demands and techniques specific to beach soccer — a transition many footballers often underestimate.
“When we first played the league in 2023, we played like normal footballers. This season when we returned, we have learned so many things — especially the rules of the game, how to serve the ball as a goalkeeper, communicate with players, and even score goals.”
With the NBSL gaining increased visibility and attracting stronger participation across the country, Okon’s aspirations underscore a growing trend of players eyeing national recognition through the league — a positive sign for Nigeria’s talent pipeline as the Super Sand Eagles prepare for future continental and global engagements.
The Super Finals will feature top clubs from across Nigeria battling for the national crown, with Abuja set to host what promises to be the most competitive edition yet.
