Speaking in an interview with Sports247, the Femmco Football Club youngster, who was recently named the club’s Best Young Player for the 2025/2026 season, said he was captivated by Olise’s performance while watching the Round of 32 clash between Paraguay and France highlights.
According to the youngster, he wishes the Nigerian-descent playmaker had chosen to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
“I am so much in love with Michael Olise and the role he plays. He is my favourite,” Waris said.
The youngster described Olise as the “brainbox” of the French national team, praising his creativity, vision, and ability to influence games from midfield.
Despite his admiration for the France international, Waris also spoke glowingly about Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi, revealing his love for the Nigerian star, who is also the cousin of legendary Nigerian playmaker Jay-Jay Okocha.
The talented youngster said Iwobi’s style of play and commitment to the national team continue to inspire him as he develops his own football career.
Waris, regarded as one of the brightest talents emerging from Femmco Football Club’s youth ranks, also promised to work even harder during the club’s upcoming camping programme during the long holiday period.
The youngster believes the extra training sessions will help him improve his game and contribute more to the team in the future.
Having enjoyed an impressive season that earned him the Best Young Player award at Femmco FC, Waris is determined to continue his development and follow in the footsteps of the players he admires.
His comments once again highlight the influence elite footballers such as Michael Olise and Alex Iwobi have on the next generation of Nigerian talents, many of whom dream of one day representing the country on the biggest stage.
