“I was without a club before, now I’m going to the Europa League final,” Emotional Leon Balogun says after Rangers reach Europa League final

Leon Balogun has reacted to Rangers reaching the Europa League final after their 3-2 aggregate win over RB Leipzig in the semi-finals.

The 33-year-old came on in the second half as Rangers sealed a 3-1 win in the second leg at Ibrox on Thursday night to confirm their place in an European final for the first time in 14 years.

The Scottish giants will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the final which takes place on May 18 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, Spain.

When asked what reaching the final means to him, Balogun told Rangers TV: “For me personally, it’s something I’m really proud of. I still have to fathom it. Football can be crazy sometimes. I’ve had difficult periods in my career.

“I didn’t have a club for a certain period of time, bounced back, made it back to the Bundesliga. After really just kicking my own behind for one and a half years at Brighton and a little loan spell at Wigan then to come to this massive club, win the league in the first season and now go to Europa League final it’s just incredible.

“I’m incredibly happy, I’m incredibly proud. I’m happy for every Ranger out there because I think that’s what we deserve as a club, as family and I’m proud to be part of that. Now we have to go all the way. That has to be the number one target, to make sure we win the final.”

The Nigerian centre-back made ten appearances during Rangers’ run to the final.
