“I Was Born with the Gift” – Bombata Bisola Mumunat Opens Up on Football Dreams and Journey

Currently playing for Sharp Striker Football Club, Ikotun, Bisola traced her love for the game back to early childhood. “My mum told me that as young as three years old, anytime I saw a football, I would cry just to get it,” she said. “I believe I was born with the gift.”

Her early development came through playing with boys between the ages of nine and ten, a period she described as crucial in shaping her confidence and understanding of the game. Despite the challenges that came with it, she remained committed to improving herself.

Bisola names Nigerian star Asisat Oshoala as her role model, emphasizing that her definition of a mentor goes beyond position or style of play. “If I can learn something from you on or off the pitch, then you are my role model,” she explained.

A natural defender, she prefers operating as a central full-back, highlighting her love for aerial duels and defensive battles. “I love heading the ball and dealing with crosses, even though I’m not the tallest,” she added with a smile.

Her training routine reflects discipline and dedication. She trains almost every day, combining indoor workouts in the morning with evening sessions on the pitch, alongside weekend friendly matches. Currently, she is working on improving her “trivela” passing technique, both long and short range.

One of her proudest moments so far has been helping her team compete in the Ikeja Divisional League, which she believes is a stepping stone toward bigger opportunities, including her ambition to feature in the WAFA League.

Bisola also spoke candidly about the challenges she has faced as a young female footballer but credited her perseverance, faith, and self-belief for helping her overcome them.

Driven by dreams of playing professionally and internationally, she hopes to restore her mother’s unfulfilled football aspirations. “I believe I will make it. I belong on the pitch,” she said confidently. Her message is clear: never give up, keep pushing, and trust the journey.
