The Nigerian fought back from a set down to defeat Abdulaziz Usmonjonov of Uzbekistan 4–6, 6–2, 6–4, leveling the tie at 1–1 as both nations battle for a place in the Davis Cup World Group II.

Adeleye’s resilience stood out as he dug deep despite visible physical discomfort, a challenge he later downplayed while speaking to Sports247 after the match.

“That’s not an injury, it’s just a muscle pull,” Adeleye explained. It’s normal for tennis players. I’ve had it before, even when I was playing in Angola.”

The Nigerian number one described the victory as deeply personal, revealing that his motivation extended beyond national duty. “I’m not playing for Nigeria alone, I’m playing for my family,” he said.

“Before I came here last week, I promised my dad. I was supposed to be in Indonesia, but I chose to come and play for my country. I want to make Nigeria and my dad proud.”

Adeleye also credited encouragement from a teammate, Canice Abua for helping him through the toughest moments of the contest.

“We spoke at about 1am the night before, and he told me, ‘Danny, I believe in you. Go there and do it for us,’” Adeleye revealed.

“That stayed with me throughout the match.”
Reflecting on the significance of competing on home soil, the Nigerian said the moment fulfilled a long-held childhood dream.

“This is something I wanted when I was a kid, and today it’s possible,” he added.
“I’m proud to be here again, representing Nigeria.”

With the playoff finely poised at 1–1, attention now shifts to Sunday’s decisive matches as Team Nigeria looks to secure a historic spot in the Davis Cup World Group II.
