Nigerian winger Afolabi Soliu has completed a move to Czech top-flight side FC Zbrojovka Brno, joining from Slovan Liberec on loan until the end of June 2027.
Importantly, the move is a loan deal without an option to buy, rather than a permanent transfer. The 21-year-old has already passed his medical and joined Zbrojovka’s first-team training.
Soliu arrives in Brno after establishing himself in Czech football since moving to the country in 2023. He initially joined FC Silon Táborsko, where he progressed from the reserve side before making 14 appearances and scoring three goals for the first team during the 2024/25 season.
His performances earned him a move to Slovan Liberec in July 2025, and he enjoyed a productive first season with the club, featuring in 31 league matches and scoring four goals.
He also made an encouraging start to the current campaign, scoring in Liberec’s 3–1 away victory over Viktoria Plzeň in the opening round of the Chance Liga. He added another five competitive appearances and one further goal before making the switch to Brno.
Zbrojovka sporting director Martin Jiránek highlighted Soliu’s pace, ball control and dribbling ability, while also pointing to his versatility across both wings as qualities that can give the team another attacking option.
Soliu is also familiar with his new club, having faced Zbrojovka earlier this season when Liberec recorded a 1–0 victory in Brno. He was introduced late in that match.
Now, the Nigerian attacker gets the opportunity to wear the Zbrojovka colours and compete for regular playing time with the Czech top-flight side.
Reflecting on the move, Soliu said:
“I’m happy that both clubs reached an agreement and that I can be part of Zbrojovka. The club made a very good impression on me, and I believe I can earn a place in the starting XI and help the team to many victories.”
For Soliu, the move is less about starting over and more about taking the next step after establishing himself in Czech football.
Born in Lagos, the Nigerian has now spent several seasons building his career in the Czech Republic. His latest challenge takes him to South Moravia, where Zbrojovka will hope his pace, one-on-one ability and versatility can add another dimension to their attack.
From Liberec to Brno, Afolabi Soliu has a fresh opportunity to make his mark in the Czech top flight.
