This 16-year-old phenom left an indelible mark by leading Nigeria’s U-16 Women’s team to a resounding victory over the host nation, Ghana, with a score of 73-24 during the FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifiers.

Standing tall at 6ft2in, Eze’s height played a significant role in her decision to pursue a basketball career. She reflects on her journey, saying, “The journey to playing basketball started four years ago when I was just 12. I met my coach in church, and he advised that I try out basketball because of my height, and truly, I was the tallest in my class.”

Currently a student at Community Senior Grammar School in Surulere, Lagos, Eze plays for MFM (Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries) and has experienced the challenges and rewards of her basketball journey. She remains determined to achieve her goals in the sport, saying, “I train hard to achieve my goal, and I am not going to back out because it has been a great experience for me.”

Eze’s remarkable performance against Ghana was one of her many standout moments in the sport. Despite her young age, she has already participated in various competitions, including the MFM and Sam Oguche competitions, as well as the NBA Academy camp.

Like many rising stars, Eze has a role model who inspires her. Dallas Wings point guard, Arike Ogunbowale, holds that special place in her heart. Eze expressed her admiration for Ogunbowale, saying, “I look up to Ogunbowale because I’ve met her before and I have seen her play, and I can tell you that she is very good. She inspires me a lot, and I hope I can attain that height in no time.”

The dream of representing Nigeria at the senior national team level is one that fuels Eze’s passion for the game. She aims to reach the highest level of basketball and proudly wears her country’s colors. Her journey has been made smoother by her membership with one of the country’s top clubs, MFM, and her experience representing Nigeria at the junior level.

Balancing education and sports is a challenge that many athletes face, but Eze seems to have mastered the art. She acknowledges the support of her parents, who have fully embraced her basketball pursuits. As she manages her education alongside rigorous training, Eze’s dedication sets her apart.

Charles Ibeziako, owner of Raptors Basketball Academy, discovered Eze’s talent. He recalls convincing her aunt to allow Eze to pursue basketball, a decision that initially faced resistance. However, her dedication and hard work have proven her commitment to the sport.

Eze’s future in Nigerian basketball looks promising, and her determination to excel at the highest level is evident. With her talent, work ethic, and passion, she is undoubtedly one of the rising stars to watch in Nigerian basketball.
