“I JUMPED FROM A TWO-STOREY BUILDING JUST TO PLAY FOOTBALL!” – Bendel Insurance Striker Oke Kayode Solomon Reveals Untold Story, Targets Continental Ticket

Bendel Insurance striker Oke Kayode Solomon, popularly known as “Major General,” has revealed how his determination to become a professional footballer pushed him to extraordinary lengths, including jumping from a two-storey building to participate in a football competition against his family’s wishes.

The Ibadan-born forward shared his remarkable journey in an interview, discussing his childhood struggles, football inspirations, personal interests and ambitions with the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club, Sports247 gathered.

Growing up as the youngest of five children in a Christian family, Solomon faced resistance from relatives who wanted him to prioritise education.

“Initially, my family did not want me to play football. They wanted me to concentrate on my education, just like my older siblings,” he recalled.

“I once jumped from a two-storey building just to participate in a competition because I was determined to play, and I did not want my mother to find out.”

Solomon subsequently participated in several grassroots football festivals and represented Oyo State, experiences that strengthened his ambition to pursue a professional career.

The striker identified former Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Emenike and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba as major influences. Solomon, an Arsenal supporter, admitted that Drogba’s performances against his favourite club inspired him to study the Ivorian’s attacking qualities.

Away from football, the striker is also a musician who plays the guitar, keyboard and drums. He revealed that he studied Business Administration and would likely have pursued banking if football had not become his profession.

Reflecting on his happiest moment at Bendel Insurance, Solomon recalled the excitement surrounding his arrival and the pressure to deliver goals.

After going four or five matches without scoring, he finally broke his duck against Bayelsa United. His celebration symbolised relief and peace of mind, eventually becoming his trademark.

Looking ahead, Solomon expressed confidence in Bendel Insurance’s ambitions.

“I am confident that we will secure a continental ticket this season,” he declared.

He also urged supporters to remain behind the team.

“We appreciate their support, and I can assure them that we will do everything possible not to let them down.”

From defying family opposition to pursuing continental football, Solomon’s journey reflects the determination behind his nickname, “Major General.”
