Super Falcons defender Glory Ogbonna can’t wait to take part in the Aisha Buhari Cup.
The group stage draw for the maiden edition of the women’s tournament was conducted in Lagos on Wednesday (Aug 18) with the Falcons drawn alongside Morocco and Mali in Group A.
Cameroon, Ghana, and South Africa will have to fight it out in a tough Group B.
The competition organized in honor of Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari will commence on September 13 with Nigeria playing Morocco in the tournament’s opener.
Ogbonna who players for Umea IK in the Swedish women’s second tier has lauded the initiative and she is eagerly anticipating the start of the six-teams tournament.
“I am happy about the Aisha Buhari Cup competition coming up. Indeed it’s a great one and I really appreciate the first lady of Nigeria [Aisha Buhari] for this wonderful outreach.
“It’s a good one for the strong teams in Africa to come together to play against each and also in preparation for the World Cup qualifiers coming up. It would be a good one for all the teams that are going to participate.
“I am happy and very excited for this competition and I really can’t wait for this competition to kick off because a lot of talents would be on show.” she said.
