Newly appointed Flying Eagles head coach Abdu Maikaba has expressed confidence that his experience at both club and national team level will help guide Nigeria’s U-20 side back to success.
Speaking after his appointment, Maikaba emphasized his strong belief in the quality of players within Nigerian domestic football, particularly at youth level.
“I believe in our talents,” he said.
According to the coach, Nigeria continues to produce gifted young footballers capable of competing at the highest level if properly developed.
“There is so much quality here,” he implied.
Maikaba also hinted at building the squad around a strong core of players from an already successful team in order to improve chemistry and understanding within the Flying Eagles.
“We need cohesion,” he noted.
The former club manager stressed that continuity and teamwork are essential ingredients for success at youth level.
“It helps the players understand each other better,” he added.
For Maikaba, his previous experience working with young talents across Nigerian football has prepared him for the challenge ahead.
“My experience will help,” he stressed.
He also acknowledged the expectations attached to the Flying Eagles job, insisting that the focus will be on discipline, development, and results.
“We want to succeed,” he said.
Nigeria’s youth teams have faced criticism in recent years, increasing pressure on the new coach to deliver improvement.
For Maikaba, the message is clear.
Trust local talent.
Build team chemistry.
And restore the Flying Eagles’ identity.
Because successful youth football starts with development, structure, and belief in young players.
