“I achieved my goals” – Uchenna relish WAFU Women’s Cup triumph over Ivory Coast

Super Falcons striker Uchenna Kanu has spoken about her goals after helping the country to clinch the 2019 WAFU Women’s Cup in Abidjan on Saturday.

The Southeastern University forward’s late equaliser gave Nigeria the rebound to defeat hosts Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties in the finals.

The 21-year-old who was able to win the top scorer award after scoring 10 goals in five matches, is hoping to keep up the pace in subsequent competitions.

“I felt it was an honour for me as an athlete. Knowing for a fact that representing your country on a national level is a big deal,” Kanu said.

“My goal for this tournament was to play to the best of my ability and help my team get, to not just the finals, but bring the trophy home. I’m glad that I achieved my goals to be the top goalscorer.

“My target is to be consistent as regards to playing and scoring to the best of my ability. I hope to be part of the team as much as I could be.”

After this feat, Kanu is expected to shift focus to the Falcon’s camp in Austria, where she’s part of the team’s 27-woman provisional squad for the Women’s World Cup in France.
