‘Barau Football Club head coach Eugene Aigbagbe has expressed satisfaction with his team’s tactical execution after securing a hard-earned point away from home against Bendel Insurance in Benin City.
Playing at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Barau FC put in a disciplined and well-organised performance to frustrate the hosts, forcing a goalless draw in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter.
Aigbagbe admitted that getting results on the road in the NPFL is never easy, especially against a side as experienced as Bendel Insurance, but praised his players for sticking to the game plan throughout the contest.
“It isn’t easy to pick up points away from home, but surely the players obeyed my tactics, and that’s why we got something here in Benin City,” the Barau FC coach said after the match.
The game was keenly contested, with Bendel Insurance enjoying more possession, while Barau FC relied on compact defending and quick transitions to neutralise the hosts. Despite a few half-chances at both ends, neither side could find the breakthrough, as the match ended in a stalemate.
The result keeps Bendel Insurance in the top half of the NPFL standings, where they sit eighth on the log with 33 points from 22 matches.
Barau FC, on the other hand, remain just above the relegation zone in 15th position with 27 points from the same number of games.
For Aigbagbe and his players, the draw represents a morale-boosting outcome as the league enters a crucial phase, with Barau FC hoping to build on the performance and climb further up the table in the coming weeks.
