The volleyball event at the ongoing Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) took off in grand style yesterday, treating fans to an exciting day of top-tier collegiate action and skillful rallies that set a thrilling tone for the competition ahead.
In the opening fixture, the host institution Uni Jos delighted the home crowd with a dominant 3–0 sweep over the University of Maiduguri.

The second match of the day lived up to its billing as the standout game of the opening round. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, overcame a spirited challenge from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), also in straight sets (3–0).
Despite the scoreline, the contest was intense, with both teams showing great resilience and technical brilliance. OAU’s experience and superior coordination ultimately made the difference, drawing applause from spectators and officials alike.
Adding glamour to the occasion were key figures from the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), including board members Mrs. Bolcit Barshep-Amakiri and Mr. Godspower Odedede, alongside the Chairman of the Plateau State Volleyball Association, who all graced the opening ceremony.
