Hon. Kabiru Amadu Boosts Grassroots Women’s Football With ₦1m Support at 2025 HerGame Girls Tournament

Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has reinforced the National Assembly’s push for grassroots sports development with a ₦1 million cash donation to the 2025 HerGame Girls Tournament in Abuja.

The fast-growing competition—organized by the HerGame Foundation—continued its upward trajectory this year, expanding from a single-city event to a North Central regional tournament featuring 16 teams.

The platform aims to identify, nurture, and promote emerging female football talents across Nigeria.

Represented by his media aide, Niyi Busari, Hon. Amadu commended the initiative and reaffirmed the legislature’s readiness to provide continuous institutional support for women’s sports at the grassroots.

“This ₦1 million donation is to support and encourage the founder and sole sponsor of this tournament,” he said. “We are working on securing additional financial backing from the National Assembly within a week. We also urge the organizers to scale up and transform this into a national event.”

Founder of the HerGame Foundation, Dr. Pat Ajuma Ayegba, expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing the support as timely and motivating.

“I am overwhelmed by the financial, moral, and physical support from the National Assembly,” she said. “My profound gratitude goes to Hon. Kabiru Amadu for attending the final, donating ₦1 million, and promising to help us deliver a more elaborate national women’s grassroots football event next year.”

On the field of play, Horvel Angels emerged champions of the 2025 edition after defeating defending champions Fosla Academy 2–0 in a commanding final at the Area 3 Sports Complex, Abuja—highlighting the competition’s growing intensity and talent pool.

The tournament’s expansion, coupled with high-level legislative backing, signals a new era for grassroots women’s football development in Nigeria.
