Home-Based Super Eagles Land in Zanzibar, Set Sights on CHAN 2024 Glory

The Home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Zanzibar for the final leg of their preparations ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), signalling the team’s commitment to a strong tournament showing.

Led by head coach Eric Chelle, the team landed in Zanzibar on Friday night after departing Nigeria from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The arrival marks a crucial phase in Nigeria’s build-up to CHAN 2024, which exclusively features players active in their home leagues.

Prior to their departure, the squad had spent two intensive weeks in Ikenne, Ogun State, focusing on tactical drills and fitness conditioning. Now settled in their training camp in Zanzibar, the team is expected to fine-tune strategies and build cohesion before heading to their official base just before the tournament kicks off.

Nigeria has been drawn into a competitive Group D, which includes defending champions Senegal, as well as Sudan and Congo – all formidable sides with strong CHAN histories.

“This final phase of our preparation is key. We’re aware of the challenges ahead, but the team is focused and ready to compete,” said Coach Chelle upon arrival.

The 2024 CHAN offers Nigeria a golden opportunity to reclaim continental respect in the home-based football scene, having last reached the final in 2018.

With morale high and preparations intensifying, fans back home will be watching closely as the Home Eagles aim to soar beyond the group stages and challenge for the coveted trophy.
