Historic Moment As Women Feature For The First Time In Nigeria Beach Soccer League

History was made at the Jabi Lake Park, Abuja, on Friday as the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) featured its first-ever women’s exhibition match during the 2025 Super Finals.

The landmark game saw Naija Ratels FC, one of the leading teams in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership, defeat Generation Next FA 1–0 in a thrilling contest that marked a new chapter for women’s football in Nigeria.

Miracle Eigbe etched her name in history by scoring the decisive goal in the opening period, securing victory for Naija Ratels in what was an intense and entertaining encounter on the sand.

For many of the players, it was their first taste of beach soccer — and the experience left a lasting impression. They described the match as both challenging and enjoyable, citing the unique demands of playing barefoot on sand compared to traditional grass pitches.

Despite the new environment, both sides adapted quickly, showing impressive enthusiasm and skill. The teams are expected to return for another exhibition clash on Saturday as part of the league’s closing activities.

According to organizers, the introduction of a women’s exhibition game is part of a broader vision to launch a Women’s Beach Soccer League in Nigeria and ultimately establish a national women’s beach soccer team.

This initiative aligns with the global drive toward the creation of a FIFA Women’s Beach Soccer World Cup, positioning Nigeria among the nations taking proactive steps to promote gender inclusion and growth in all facets of the sport.
