The president of Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria (GFN), Prince Kelvin Erhunwunse has explained that the announcement of 44 coaches to various categories of the national teams is a formal commencement of plans towards the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
Sports247 reports that Erhunwunse expressed satisfaction that the GFN was able to roll out such a long list after making elaborate checks on the pedigree and achievements of each tactician, whose names were included based on their long standing efforts in gymnastics.
Erhunwunse went on to urge each of the newly appointed coaches and technical officers to make the best of the posts to which they have been appointed, while bringing professional conduct into various disciplines of the national teams.
While noting that the coaches were carefully selected on the basis of what they have distinguished for themselves in their respective disciplines, Erhunwunse urged them all to note that their major focus should be on preparations towards Los Angeles 2028.
“These appointments were made based on merit, dedication, and the track records of the individuals. We have absolute confidence that these coaches possess the requisite experience and passion to elevate Nigerian gymnastics to unprecedented heights.
“Our primary goal is clear: we want to produce world-class athletes who will not only dominate the African continent but also stand on the podium at the global stage. Preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics begins now.
“We are putting the right technical crew in place to achieve this vision,” stressed Erhunwunse, who also charged the newly appointed coaches to see their roles as a call to patriotic duty.
