The head coach at Grassrunners FC of Sagamu, Daniel Itodo, has dedicated the team’s conquest of this year’s Ogunjobi Gold Cup to his array of ‘very hardworking players,’ who he praised for giving the very best of their abilities to pull off the heroic achievement.
Sports247 reports that Itodo, a product of Pepsi Football Academy in Agege Stadium, Lagos, was filled with delight as he reflected on the many factors that made victory possible for Grassrunners, following their 3-0 victory over Abakaliki FC in the pre-season competition’s final.
Grassrunners’ way to victory was opened by Hamzat Sheriff’s 46th-minute own goal, followed by Temileyin Adelabu’s 70th-minute strike and Lasisi Musa’s late sizzler, as the 14th edition of the competition came to a pulsating end after 10 days of exciting action.
Despite brilliant saves from Abakaliki FC’s goalkeeper, Okoa Chizoba, Adelabu’s assurance goal and Musa’s decisive strike sealed the win for Coach Itodo’s side, while his shot-stopper, Gideon Nwanzi, made two huge saves to keep Grassrunners FC ahead.
“I am so happy and excited that we are the 2026 Ogunjobi Gold Cup champions. I thank God for making it possible, and I also appreciate the efforts of my players. We got this victory through their hard work and dedication.
“It was a wonderful and amazing experience. I thank the entire team for a job well done, including my assistants, backroom staff, officials, and our big boss,” Coach Itodo stated in a chat with Sports247.
