The Special Assistant on Sports to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Honourable Oluwatobi Oyewumi has amplified the vision of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde.
The graduate of the University of Ibadan made this known while speaking with some members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN,( Oyo State chapter) led by their Chairman, Comrade Olaolu Fawole. Honorable Oyewumi hinted that youth development, security, job Creation are part of cardinal programs of the Executive Governor of the state.
He highlighted various developmental programs embarked upon by the government which aims at arresting youth restiveness and restore the glory of sports in the state.
Sports, particularly football is no longer a waste of time. It’s a tool of unity and a source of a cash cow in many advanced worlds and we cannot afford to explore the benefits in the pacesetters state ”
The former footballer added that “In recognizing this, His Excellency has evolved a lot of plans to engage youths to participate in one sports or the others to bring glory not only to themselves but to the nation at large”
Apart from that, another huge amount of money has been set aside for youths empowerment and no thanks to Coronavirus which stalls a lot of things across the globe, if not, you guys would have seen more of what the government is doing. The welfare of our athletes is 100% and throughout the pandemic, Shooting Stars players received their full salaries and this shows the quality of leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde”
The Master’s holder in Peace and Conflicts study from the Premier University hinted that there are a lot of grassroots programmes for the athletes while he submitted that the People’s Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde also plays tennis every day to keep fit
