Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to youth and sports development during a series of visits to key events at the ongoing Gateway Games 2024.
The governor, accompanied by members of his team, toured several venues where athletes from across the state are competing in various disciplines.

His first stop was the Alake Sports Centre, where he watched both male and female volleyball matches. Impressed by the energy and skill on display, Governor Abiodun described the performances as “truly inspiring.”
“We are witnessing firsthand the potential of our young people. The Gateway Games is not just about winning medals — it’s about providing a platform for growth, teamwork, and excellence,” he said.
At the Ijeja sports complex, the governor also observed competitions in gymnastics, table tennis, and handball. He praised the athletes for their talent and determination, noting that the passion on display across these events reflects Ogun State’s rich reservoir of sporting potential.
The climax of the governor’s tour was at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, where he was on hand to witness the thrilling 4×4 Mixed Relay race. In a show of both athleticism and strategy,
Team Ogun emerged victorious, earning the gold medal in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Governor Abiodun personally presented the medal to the team, calling it “a proud and unforgettable moment for us all.”
He added, “From one venue to another, the spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship is evident. These young athletes are the future of our state and nation, and we are proud to celebrate and invest in their journey.”
The Gateway Games 2024 continues to serve as a rallying point for youth empowerment, sports excellence, and community pride in Ogun State, with Governor Abiodun’s active involvement sending a strong message of support to all participants.
