Gov Wike Unity Cup: Bayelsa United worsen Select’s woes in pre season tourney

Bayelsa United made sure they added to Select FC’s woes by slaying the non leaguers with an emphatic 3-1 win in the Gov Wike Unity Cup on Wednesday morning.

Goals from Okiki Musampa, Esobe Chukwudi and Wisdom Magbisa were enough to condemn Select to their third defeat in a row despite a consolation from Frank James.

Early in the game, Esobe saw his pass to Musampa blocked while Magbisa fired wide a minute later.

The Restoration Boys claimed the lead through former Kano Pillars, Mighty Jets, Nembe City, Gombe United and Warri Wolves forward Musampa.

Dashing winger, Esobe, who defended the colours of Kwara United in the past made it 2-0 in favour of Bayelsa United as the first half petered out.

Six minutes into the second half, Magbisa netted a screamer from 25 yards as the Yenagoa outfit ran riot.

Frank James gave the non league side hope of a likely comeback with his first goal of the tournament on the 70 minutes mark.

Select FC poured forward in a bid to reduce the deficit but all efforts proved futile.

With the result, Bayelsa United have picked three points from two games to occupy fourth spot in Group A while bottom placed Select FC are pointless.
