The Milwaukee Bucks forward — widely known as the “Greek Freak” — announced the venture on social media late Saturday, revealing that he has acquired a minority stake in the Women’s Super League (WSL) powerhouse.

His entry into Chelsea’s ownership ranks places him alongside Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis icon Serena Williams, who previously purchased a reported 10 percent stake in the club last year.

“I’m proud and honored to partner with my friend alexi sohanian, joining the ownership group of ChelseaFC Women a historic club built on passion, excellence, and a winning culture,” Antetokounmpo wrote. “I’m excited to contribute to the future by supporting continued growth and impact in women’s sport. This is about ambition, legacy, and pushing the game to new heights.”

A Strategic Play Beyond Basketball

Antetokounmpo’s investment marks the latest chapter in his expanding portfolio of sports ownership. He already holds minority stakes in Major League Soccer’s Nashville SC and Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers, underscoring a growing trend of elite athletes diversifying into sports business.

For Chelsea FC Women, the addition of a global figure like Antetokounmpo could elevate the club’s profile, particularly in markets such as the United States where the NBA star is a household name.

It also arrives at a pivotal moment for women’s sports, as clubs and leagues continue to chase broader commercial growth, increased investment, and international audiences.

Alexis Ohanian, in his earlier investment announcement, described the women’s side of Chelsea as “unapologetically ambitious,” with plans to grow the club’s stature as a global women’s sports brand a vision Antetokounmpo’s involvement now reinforces
