Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has backed Nigeria to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the team prepares for their crucial playoff fixtures.
Rohr, who managed the national team between 2016 and 2021, said he remains confident in the squad’s ability to overcome the challenges ahead and book their place in the global tournament.

The Franco-German coach acknowledged that the playoffs will not be easy but insisted Nigeria possess the quality and experience needed to triumph.
He highlighted the high calibre of players currently representing the country, adding that if they approach each match with focus and determination, they should have no problem advancing.
Rohr, who led the Super Eagles to the 2018 World Cup and guided them through several successful qualification campaigns, admitted that his own team “tried but fell short” in previous attempts.
Despite that, he maintains strong ties with many players and officials within the national setup. “I still have friends in the Nigerian team,” he said, “so I will be their supporter during the playoffs and at the World Cup in the Americas.”
He emphasised that the team’s preparation and mindset will be key to navigating the playoff format, especially with matches being played in Morocco.
Rohr also encouraged Nigerians to show full support for the squad, reminding them that unity and belief often make the difference in high-pressure situations.
Rohr concluded by saying he will be cheering the Super Eagles on from the sidelines and is confident they have what it takes to deliver. “Nigeria has the talent,” he said, “and with the right attitude, they will qualify.”
