Former Gombe State FA chairman, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, has cautioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) against bowing to the reported salary demands of Eric Chelle, head coach of the Nigeria national football team.

Gara-Gombe did not hold back in his assessment of the situation, questioning both the timing and justification of the alleged demands.
“This man just came to Nigeria to boost his CV. I said it before that Super Eagles is too big for Chelle. The Super Eagles raised Chelle to the global stage, not him raising the team, and he now wants to ‘blackmail’ us,” he stated.
The outspoken football administrator argued that managing a team of Nigeria’s stature should be considered a privilege rather than a bargaining platform.
“With the players Nigeria have, we are even the ones to ask a coach like Eric Chelle to pay us ‘privileged fees,’” Gara-Gombe added.
His comments are likely to stir further debate among stakeholders, especially at a time when expectations remain high for the Super Eagles on the continental and global stage.
