FUNAAB Athletes Win Nine Medals At NUGA 2025 in Jos

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has recorded a commendable performance at the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games, finishing with a total of nine medals at the competition hosted by the University of Jos, Plateau State.

The Games, which ran from November 5 to 16, 2025, brought together athletes from more than 90 universities across the country. Competing on a national stage, FUNAAB athletes claimed one Gold, three Silver and five Bronze medals, a return that placed the institution 36th on the overall standings.

FUNAAB’s medal haul was achieved through strong performances across multiple sports. In Athletics (Track and Field), the university amassed eight points, with the male athletes contributing seven points and the female athletes adding one point.

The Taekwondo male team also made a notable impact, securing three points for the university. Tennis proved productive for both genders, as the male team earned three points while the female team contributed two points. Squash emerged as one of FUNAAB’s strongest events, with both the male and female teams delivering four points each. The Table Tennis male team further boosted the university’s tally with an additional two points.

University officials have hailed the athletes’ efforts as a reflection of discipline, commitment and steady growth in FUNAAB’s sports development programme. The nine-medal performance at NUGA 2025 underscores the institution’s determination to balance academic excellence with competitive sports, while laying a solid foundation for even stronger outings in future editions of the Games.
