From Algeria to Zimbabwe, more than 100 countries already represented in the AIPS Sport Media Awards

With 27 days left to submit your work (deadline is November 9), professionals from 101 countries have already submitted their work for the AIPS Sport Media Awards 2020, the internationally acclaimed prize for achievements in the sports media industry.

From Algeria to Zimbabwe, from Argentina to United States, from Austria to Ukraine, from Bahrain to Yemen and from Australia to Vanuatu, the five continents are represented across Writing (Best Column and Best Colour Piece), Photography (Action Picture and Portfolio), Audio, Video (Short Feature, Athlete Profile and Documentary) and Young Reporter Under 30 categories.

Since its creation in 2018, the AIPS Sport Media Awards have gathered submissions from 137 countries. No other award can claim such a global and rapid response.

NEW COUNTRIES As we still wait for a wave of last-minute submissions, five countries that were never represented before are already part of this edition: Bahrain, Haiti, Jordan, Namibia and Sierra Leone. We are sure that more are about to join.

Under the principles of free participation, no language barriers and no membership required, the Awards have created an ecosystem of sport media excellence for sports journalists, photographers, producers and video makers.

Unlike many national awards destined to close circles, the AIPS Sport Media Awards promotes diversity. Full-time employees and freelancers are equally welcome, as long as they are professionals in their countries. What’s more, by only accepting submissions from individuals, and not from media outlets, we are democratising the right of participation.

CERTIFICATES AND PRIZES Each entrant receives a certificate of participation. If he/she qualifies for the next round, a certificate of merit will be released. The three finalists in each of the 8 senior categories will each receive either US$ 8,000 (1st prize), US$ 3,000 (2nd prize) or US$ 2,000 (3rd prize). Continental rankings with the most voted journalists will also be announced and special certificates will be issued.

All in all, participating in the AIPS Sport Media Awards is being part of a growing community of international colleagues that, each from a different place and reality, plead for a better journalism.

The introduction of the Young Reporter Under 30 categories, for achievements to those born since 1991 and with a special scholarship as prize, has also helped to improve participation regardless of age and work status.

QUALITY JOURNALISM In a fast-paced environment of breaking news and click-bait, quality is sometimes forgotten and merits are not properly recognised. By simply navigating through the past winners, one can easily understand the concept of quality that will always prevail in journalism, regardless of the countless crises and tough circumstances that colleagues all over the world are facing.

So far, journalists from 101 countries have submitted their work for the third edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards.  Submitting is extremely easy. Just register and upload your files at www.aipsawards.com

Each individual can submit up to two works, if they were published/broadcast between 8 October 2019 and 9 November 2020. Remember: deadline is November 9, 18:00 Central European Time.

Join before it’s too late!
