Frank Onyeka Gets €7m To Extend Loan Deal Into Full Contract At Coventry

Super Eagles’ battling midfielder, Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka is set to receive a fee of €7m to extend his initial loan deal at Coventry of England into a full contract, barely 24 hours after helping the club hook promotion to the English Premier League.

Sports247 reports that Onyeka’s full contract, which is officially regarded as Coventry’s first signing after gaining promotion back to the EPL is due reward for his contributions to their successful campaign.

Coventry secured promotion back to the top flight, following a 25-year-absence, came after they drew 1-1 at Blackburn on Friday night, which triggered a clause to make Onyeka’s loan deal from mid-stream EPL team, Brentford a full transfer.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who signed for Brentford from FC Midtjylland of Denmark in 2021, following their promotion to the EPL, has so far made 12 appearances for Frank Lampard‘s Sky Blues during their quest to reach the Prem.

Onyeka played 87 times for The Bees as they established themselves in the top flight but, having fallen down the pecking order in West London, he spent the 2024/2025 season on loan at FC Augsburg of Germany.

Following his return to Brentford, Onyeka played six EPL games during the first half of this season, after which he signed on loan for Coventry, adding experience to Lampard’s ranks as they chased their promotion aspiration.

He ended up getting 12 appearances for Coventry, with a total of 11 starting spots, while his only goal for The Sky Blues came in their 3-2 win over Derby County earlier this month.

Onyeka played 62 minutes as the Sky Blues completed the job at Ewood Park on Friday and he will now hope to help his side seal top spot in the Championship on Tuesday as they host Portsmouth, with victory at home to give them double delight.

Fotbollskanalen added, “Coventry’s promotion triggered a compulsory buy clause in Onyeka’s loan agreement. Consequently, The Sky Blues are now mandated to pay a €7 million fee to make the transfer permanent ahead of the next campaign.”
