A very reliable central defender in the glory days of defunct Obanta United FC of Ijebu-Ode, Kenneth Uzor is making plans for a bold return to active coaching, after surviving surgery of the stomach.
Uzor, who also played for Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and Mitchel Farms FC of Lagos as well as Dragons of Benin Republic, added in an interview with Sports247 that he has stayed alive while ‘doing other things,’ but stressed that he is keen on making a return to coaching.
The former centre back, who previously coached Ecas FC of Agboju and Al-Barika of Amuwo Odofin, recalled how a knee injury stopped him from playing football in 1994, hence his determination not to allow health matters end his coaching career as well.
“I’ve been out for a very long time due to the surgery I had for appendicitis. It was so bad and even became infected after the first surgery. I eventually had to go for further surgery to clear it totally.
“It cost me a lot of money, time and pain; but I am happy that I’m still alive. I thank God for saving me, and I want to show my gratitude by returning to full-time coaching.
“I’m currently the vice-leader of Iba Coaches Council, which is headed by Sesi Toku; but I want to resume fully in coaching young players. I’m coming back soon,” said the ex-player who fans fondly called ‘Banana’ during his playing days.
