Flying Eagles still has a lot to learn before U-20 AFCON – Paul Aigbogun

Coach of Nigeria’s U20 national team Paul Aigbogun has stated that his team will continue to improve and get better following the team’s 2-0 defeat to Senegal in the WAFU U-20 cup final on Sunday.

The Flying Eagles played a goalless draw against Niger in the opening match before humbling arch rivals Ghana 4 – 1 to book a semi final tie against the young Eagles of Mali which Nigeria won 5 – 4 on penalties after the match ended 1 – 1 during regulation time.

Speaking with sports247.ng, Aigbogun whose side have had an unbeaten run in competitive matches since the inception of the current Flying Eagles team said they have learnt few lessons and that the tournament was more a platform to see the team well and look for ways and where to improve in the team and not just the result alone.

“This competition was to help us prepare for the bigger U-20 AFCON in Niger and we have seen our lapses and where we need to improve. We’re still developing and we are still open to bringing in players that will improve our overall play.”

The U-20 AFCON will be hosted by Niger and is scheduled for February 2 – 17. The Flying Eagles in the group stage will face host Niger, South Africa and Burundi.
