Flamingos Must Use All Chances During Thursday’s Round Of 16 Battle With Mexico, Akeem Busari Admits

Nigeria’s cadet female national team, Flamingos’ coach, Akeem Busari has admitted that his players must be at their very best and use all chances that come their way against Mexico on Thursday.

Sports247 reports that Busari acknowledged that he and his players are going for a different kind of game, as they seek a ticket into the quarter-finals of this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

He further noted how Mexico have improved with each game during the ongoing competition, which makes it imperative for his players to be on their toes all through the upcoming encounter in the coastal surburb of Salé near Rabat.

The former head coach at Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan then expressed optimism that his team will also continue to improve, as they recovered from an opening 2-1 defeat by Poland to beat Puerto Rico 2-0 and shock back-to-back defending champions Korea DPR 3-1.

Busari theorised, “Looking at the magnitude of this World Cup, the first game was like we are exercising the style of game we play, but now it’s a different ball game, a different attitude. Orientation has to change.

“Every team has its strong points and equally has deficiencies. They top their group, a very good side. A game of the same style; the approach might be different, and taking chances is one of the major things we need to step up.”

He will again count on goals from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Oluebube Umejiaku, who have two each so far, as well as Precious Oscar, who scored against Puerto Rico, while Kanyinsola Yusuf netted from a free-kick against Korea.

Sports247 recalls that Nigeria won the Female Cadet Mundial’s third place match against Germany in India four years ago, while Mexico defeated Brazil 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to also clinch bronze at last year’s tournament hosted by Morocco.
