In just five days, the eyes of Africa will once again turn to Morocco, where sixteen of the continent’s finest women’s national teams will gather for the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). From 26 July to 16 August, the cities of Rabat and Casablanca will host Africa’s biggest women’s football spectacle, with a new champion set to be crowned on 16 August in Rabat.
For most nations, WAFCON is a dream. For Nigeria, it is a legacy.
No team has shaped the history of this competition quite like the Super Falcons. When the story of women’s football in Africa is written, it begins with Nigeria. For nearly three decades, the green and white have been the standard by which every other nation measures itself.
